"Hertzlich Thut Mich Verlangen"  2015  Hans Hassler/arr. Chancellor
  One of Hassler's most well-known tunes, "Hertzlich thut mich varlangen" appears in Lutheran, Baptist and Methodist hymnals as "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded." It was originally composed in 1601 as a court song but was furst published in 1656 with the now-popular hymn text.  This transcription is voiced for the standard wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon).
 
 
 
 
 
"Exultate Deo"  2015  Hans Hassler/arr. Chancellor
  This work is a transcription of Hassler's "Exultate Deo" written in 1601.  The original voicing is for 5-part chorus, SSATB. The Hassler's fluid accapella scoring lends itself wonderfully to the grace and subtlety of the wind quintet.
 
 
 
 
 
Divertimento in G  II:3   2015  F. Joseph Haydn/arr. Chancellor
  This work, written in 1760, was orginally scored for 2 oboes, 2 horns and 2 bassoons. It has been transcribed and condesed to fit the standard wind quintet voicing. It features two lovely menuets and a gorgeous slow movement featuring the clarinet and horn.

Divertimento in C  II:14   2015  F. Joseph Haydn/arr. Chancellor
    Originally conceived for 2 clarinets and 2 horns in C, this work has been revoiced for 2 woodwinds (parts in C and Bb transposition included) with 2 horns (in F transposition). It is a lively work in five movements, and an excellent option for performing with groups of non-standard instrumentation.

Divertimento in F  II:15   2014  F. Joseph Haydn/arr. Chancellor
  Haydn originally wrote this divertimento for sextet consisting of 2 oboes, 2 horns and 2 bassoons.  This arrangement has revoiced the piece for standard wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon).  It is set, like the original, in the key of F Major.  It consists of five movements.

“Sí, mi chiamano Mimí” from La Boheme 2013   Puccini/ arr. Evans
    This work is an arrangement of Mimi’s aria from Act I of the 1896 Puccini opera.  It is set for woodwind quintet and features the clarinet as soloist.  The clarinet solo was written for Dawn Lindblade, professor at the University of Central Oklahoma and clarinetist of the Zephyr Winds.

“La Donna é Mobile” from Rigoletto  2013  Verdi/ arr. Evans
    This famous tune is originally a canzone for tenor voice from Act III of Verdi’s 1851 opera Rigoletto.  This work is an arrangement for woodwind quintet which very faithfully renders both the playful solo line and the accompaniment which adds to its character.

“Non so piú cosa son” from Le Nozze di Figaro 2013  W.A. Mozart/ arr. Evans
    Mr. Evans has done a lovely arrangement for woodwind quintet of this beloved tune from The Marriage of Figaro.  This work features the horn and was written for Peggy Moran, professor at the University of Central Oklahoma.  The horn part includes a clever cadenza in which Mr. Evans has blended several whimsical quotes from other Mozart works.

“Au fond du temple saint” from Les Pêcheurs de Perles  2013  Bizet/ arr. Evans
    This is an arrangement of the famous “Pearl Fishers’ duet” from Bizet’s 1863 opera. The work is set for woodwind quintet and features the horn and bassoon in the solo roles.

“Recitative & Modern Major General” from Pirates of Penzance 2013  Sullivan/ arr. Evans
    This is an arrangement for woodwind quintet of music from the 1879 Gilbert & Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance.  It includes music from a recitative section, sung in the stage work by Mabel, the Major General, Samuel and Chorus followed by the well-known tune, “Modern Major General.”  This is a challenging setting requiring individual virtuosity, ensemble coherence and rhythmic precision... and it’s a lot of fun!
